Organizations

An organization is a shared workspace for a team. Resources you create on Mengi Cloud normally belong to your personal account — only you can see and manage them. An organization lets a group of users work together: members share access to the organization, and resources such as deployments, clusters and secrets can be moved into it so they belong to the team rather than to one person.

You can belong to any number of organizations, each with its own members and roles, and keep using your personal account alongside them.

Creating an organization

From the Organizations page:

  1. Click Create Organization.
  2. Give it a name (e.g. My Company).
  3. Choose a URL slug — a short identifier made of lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens (e.g. my-company). It’s suggested automatically from the name, and must be unique across Mengi Cloud.
  4. Create. You become the organization’s first owner.

The slug identifies the organization in URLs and can’t be changed later, so pick one you’re happy with. The display name can be changed at any time.

Inviting members

Owners and admins can add people to an organization:

  1. Select the organization and open the Members tab.
  2. Click Invite.
  3. Enter the person’s email address and choose their role.

The invited person must already have a Mengi Cloud account with that email address — if they don’t, ask them to sign up first, then invite them. Once invited, they’re added to the organization immediately and it appears on their Organizations page.

Admins can invite people as member or admin. Only an owner can invite someone as an owner.

Member roles

Every member has one of three roles:

RoleWhat they can do
OwnerFull control — everything an admin can do, plus change members’ roles, add other owners and delete the organization
AdminManage the organization — edit its name, invite and remove members, transfer resources into it and manage invoice settings
MemberView the organization and its members, and use its resources

A few rules to be aware of:

  • Changing roles is owner-only, and you can’t change your own role — another owner has to do it for you.
  • An organization must always keep at least one owner — the last owner can’t be removed or leave.

Transferring resources

Resources you created under your personal account can be transferred to an organization, so the whole team works with them. Three resource types can be transferred:

  • Clusters
  • Deployments
  • Secrets

To transfer a resource you must own it personally and be an admin or owner of the destination organization. After the transfer, the resource belongs to the organization.

Transfers move a resource into an organization — there’s currently no self-service way to move it back to a personal account. If you need a transfer reversed, contact support.

Removing members and leaving

  • Owners and admins can remove other members from the Members tab.
  • Anyone can leave an organization by removing themselves — except the last owner, who must first promote someone else to owner (or delete the organization).

Removing a member takes effect immediately; they no longer see the organization or its resources.

Deleting an organization

Only an owner can delete an organization, and only when it’s empty of workloads: an organization that still has clusters or deployments can’t be deleted. Delete or transfer those resources first, then confirm the deletion from the organization’s page.

Deleting an organization removes its membership list and settings — your personal account and the other members’ accounts are unaffected.

Billing and invoice settings

Each organization has an Invoice Settings tab (visible to owners and admins) where you can set your company details — name, address, VAT number and so on. When you’re an owner or admin of an organization, invoices for your usage are issued with those company details instead of your personal ones, so your bookkeeping shows the right legal entity.

Good to know

  • Your personal account is separate — resources you don’t transfer stay private to you, even if you belong to several organizations.
  • Roles are per organization — you can be an owner of one organization and a plain member of another.
  • Invitations require an existing account — there’s no pending-invite state; people are added the moment you invite them.
  • Keep at least two owners in a team organization — it avoids being locked out of owner-only actions if one person is away.
  • The organization slug is permanent; the name and avatar can be updated at any time by an admin or owner.
